African Youth and Governance Conference-Accra 2009


The African Youth and Governance conference brought together young people from Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Lesotho, Cote D'Voire, Baukina Fasso and Zambia to delibrate on issues of Policy, 'Participation and Empowerment' and Mobilization.










The conference started on the 12th of August which is designated International Youth Day. Discussions on sexual and reproductive health, acceleration of ratification of the African Youth Charter, Employment and so on were given adequate attention by speakers present: Government representatives, youth representative, CHRAJ commissioner (Anna Bossman) some members of the diplomatic corps, country representative of the UNFPA among others.

The startegic objectives the conference set was:
  • To ensure the ratification of the African Youth Charter by 2010 and the creation of youth forum within the African Union by 2011
  • To ensure Greater commitment of African Government to comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health programming for young people.
