Man accused of kidnapping a special child for money-making rituals


A man believed to be in his late 20s has been accused of kidnapping a 14 year old autistic boy for money-making rituals in Have Ando No. 1, a rural community in the Volta Region.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect (name withheld) was seen chasing the autistic boy in a playful manner during a football match between Have Ando No. 1 and Tonu- a nearby community.
Later in the day at around 5 Sunday evening, the suspect was seen abducting the boy and escaping with him together with an accomplice (also name withheld) on a motor bike. The footballers from the Tonu community having lost the match stayed behind to correct their mistakes only to witness the abduction.
They quickly went to the boys rescue and captured the accomplice after the suspect had sped off on his motor bike.
The accomplice escaped a few minutes on after the footballers dragged him towards the chief’s palace. According to eyewitnesses, an in-law of the accomplice facilitated his escape.
As of 8:30 Sunday evening, the chief and elders of Have Ando No. 1 met to discuss appropriate measures to take to bring both the suspect and accomplice to justice.

Story Update

The accused is now a free man as he explained to the chief and elders of Have Ando that he meant no harm to the boy he has been accused of attempting to kidnap and later murdering him for money rituals. All interests in the case agreed to bury the hatched.
